Home automation with Sonoff

Sonoff is a device that allows you to automate electronics in your house, such as turning on the light, switch on a fan, or auto reset a device at a certain time of the day. Sonoff is compatible with both Amazon Echo and the Google Home Assistance. Sonoff can be bought for around 9 dollars a piece here or you can just go to Amazon and search for Sonoff.

1. To set up the Sonoff for automation first you need the Sonoff and the 2 Prong extension cord (3 Prong cable will not work).

2. We need to cut the prong extension cable in half, but before we cut the cable in half I recommend taking a permanent marker and mark the cable like I have below. This is because you do not want to mix up the left and right side of the cable when attaching it to the Sonoff.

3. Make sure the plug side is in the input and the outlet is on the output side. Tighten the screws with a flat head screwdriver once the cable is connected.

4. See below

5. See picture below

6. After you are done connecting the input and the output go to your phone and download the eWeLink app and open it. Now plug the cable into an outlet, press and hold the black button on the Sonoff until the LED light blinks rapidly.

7. On the eWeLink app create an account and log in. To create an account just tap on register.

8. Once you are logged in, you will see a screen like below. Tap on the Plus button to start adding a device.

9. At this time the green light on the Sonoff should be blinking repeatedly if it is not, press and hold the black button on the Sonoff device again until the green link starts blinking and tap Next on your phone.

10. Now type in your WiFi name and password and tap Next

11. Let the app search for the Sonoff device

12. Once the app is done searching it will display a screen like the one below. Give your Sonoff device a name and tap Complete.

13. If everything went successfully, you will see a screen like the one below. Tap on Got it. Now your device is added to the eWeLink app. In this app, you can control the Sonoff to switch it on or off.

14. Once you are done adding the device you should be back to a screen that looks like below. Tap on the power button to turn it on and off.
