How to reset Mac sign on password

1. Restart or boot up your Mac

2. While it's starting up, hold down Cmd + R. After a short wait this will boot you, without asking for a password, into Recovery Mode.

3. Select Utilities (in the top menu bar), then Terminal

4. Type resetpassword, press Enter, and you'll be taken to the password reset menu. Now select the hard drive and the userwhose password you wish to change, type in a new password (try to remember it this time!), add a password hint if you think this will be necessary, and hit Save.

5. Restart you computer and you should be able to login with the new password
